In a city that’s constantly rushing toward the future, Sabha is a rare pause—a place where the past meets the present in a conversation soaked with meaning, music, and memory. Tucked away near the busy lanes of Commercial Street, this newly restored 160-year-old heritage bungalow isn’t just Bangalore’s freshest cultural venue—it’s a living, breathing tribute to the city’s layered identity.

Sabha is redefining how the city experiences the arts. And it’s doing so with a quiet elegance that’s fast becoming its signature.

A Heritage Home with a New Heartbeat

Earlier used as a Chaturveda Siddantha Sabha School, this 160-year-old dilapidated structure on Kamaraj Road, earlier known as Cavalry Road, has recently been restored to its old glory. Think pillared verandas, a tiled sloped roof, lime plaster walls, and airy courtyards that transport you to a different time.

But Sabha is not frozen in time. Its transformation into a public cultural space is what gives it soul. Now, the corridors buzz with music, poetry, theatre, craft workshops, and community gatherings. There’s no loud branding, no commercial gloss—just an invitation to be present.

Oota & Aata with Urbanaut: Where Nostalgia Meets Nibbles

Earlier this year, Urbanaut collaborated with Sabha for a warm, delightful evening called Oota & Aata—a celebration of traditional board games paired with heritage snacks. Guests were invited to leave their phones behind and dive into rounds of Chowka Bara, Pagade, and Ali Guli Mane, games that have been played across South Indian homes for generations.

Set against the earthy backdrop of Sabha’s courtyard, the event wasn’t just about fun and games—it was a loving reminder of how culture is often best passed down through play, food, and community. It was a sellout success, and a blueprint for what meaningful urban experiences could look like.
