Then Sanjay Gandhi National Park, an unheralded gem in the middle of one of the densest cities in the world is it. This National park still within city limits is the perfect quick escape away from the bustle of the big city for you & your kids. Go on a nature trail (guide mandatory), cycle or walk unguided down the main road or visit the ancient Kanheri caves at this unheralded gem.
You could also consider the Nature Trail at the Conservation Education Centre( BNHS) in Goregaon. This 33 sq km protected forest sanctuary is now a thriving haven for majestic leopards, diverse deer species, magnificent birds, reptiles, amphibians, and an array of fascinating insects and vibrant flora.
Heading to the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary is also a great option during the flamingo season! You and your kids get to enjoy an hour-long ride on a 24-seater boat through mangroves as you get a close-up view of flamingos and other birds that visit between November & June. Head to Parsi Dairy Farm near Marine Lines, a beloved 90’s kid staple newly rebranded, for their signature kulfis, sweets and candy factory vibes. Perfect for an afternoon out. While introducing them to decade-old sweet shops, do take them to the legendary K.Rustoms & Co. Ice Cream Parlour for their legendary ice cream sandwiches.
